 RECEIVES OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Martin, TN (June 11, 2009) – Steve Westenhofer, CEO of Volunteer Community Hospital (VCH), has been honored with an Outstanding Achievement Award from Community Health Systems, one of the nation’s leading systems of general acute-care hospitals.  The organization includes Volunteer Community Hospital and over 120 other hospitals in 29 states.  The Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes hospital leaders who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to quality healthcare and operational excellence.

Mr. Westenhofer became CEO at VCH in November of 2004.  He has been involved in health care management since 1979.  Since his tenure at VCH, he has recruited full time physician specialists in the areas of neurology, general surgery, pulmonology, cardiology, orthopedics and urology.  With the recruitment of these specialists, hospital services have expanded to include cardiac catheterizations, total joint replacement, advanced urological procedures and most recently a hospitalist program.  VCH has also added a step down unit, 32 slice CT scan and completed a million dollar surgical suite renovation during this time.  During 2008, patient satisfaction consistently scored above the national average and 96% of patients say they would recommend the hospital to friends and family.  Westenhofer says his success would not be possible without the support of the hospital’s Board of Trustees, medical staff and dedicated employees. “I work with an amazing group of people who care deeply about this hospital and our patients.
