The 12-week Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed for those who have had heart attacks, coronary artery by-pass surgery, and angina. By combining exercise with health education, individuals learn how to reduce the risk of recurrent heart disease and establish a safe level of activity to resume a normal lifestyle. Exercise sessions are telemetry monitored and under the supervision of a registered nurse certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Participants learn the principles of physical activity, how to check their blood pressure and heart rate, and develop the proper skills to assume personal responsibility for good health in accordance with the Standards of the American Heart Association. Other aspects of the educational component cover diet modification, weight control, stress management and risk factors associated with heart disease. Family members may also attend health education classes. Participation in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is through physician referral.
